MrSpeakers' ETHER 2 headphone is our all-new top of the line open-back planar magnetic headphone with a new driver, motor, baffle, and headband all designed to synergistically blend stunningly lifelike sound with the industry-leading comfort and reliability that are the hallmarks of MrSpeakers' products.
New kid on the block
It’s been three years and we’ve not been idle, having introduced our critically acclaimed VOCE electrostatic headphone and our high performance yet affordable ÆON headphones.
But we've been hard at work on the flagship planars, and now we’re pleased to introduce ETHER 2!
Putting the Pedal to the Metal
ETHER 2 has an entirely new motor designed around the concept of TrueFlow technology. Instead of designing TrueFlow into the motor, we designed the motor around the TrueFlow technology to realize a major improvement in linearity, dynamics, and detail. And we didn’t stop there.
To make the most of the increased resolution of the motor we developed an all-new diaphragm that’s 70% less aluminum trace weight than the original ETHER driver. As a result, ETHER 2 delivers incredible clarity, powerful, fast bass, liquid mids, and a smooth, balanced top end that’s incredibly resolving yet not at all bright to deliver a coherent, dynamic and remarkably balanced performance.
Shedding Weight, Not Strength
ETHER 2 is light. Really light, almost 90 grams or 3.75 ounces lighter than our comfortable ETHER Flow headphones. Amazingly, this weight drop didn’t involve switching from metal to plastic components, which would compromise sound and reduce product life. Nope.
ETHER 2 sports an all-metal headphone cup and headband, with a carbon fiber driver baffle, so it’s built to last, in style. At under 290gr, ETHER 2 is not only the lightest full size planar magnetic headphone on the market and it may be the lightest top-of-the-line headphone from any high-end vendor.
Ultralightweight design with a new ergonomic ear pad and an enhanced webbed head-strap combine to make ETHER 2 the new standard in high-performance headphone comfort and ergonomics.
Get Wired with VIVO!
We didn’t stop at upgrades to the headphone, either. While our original DUM (Distinctly Un-Magical) cable was a great performer, it was a bit stiffer and more microphonic than we wanted, so we set out to upgrade the cable.
Meet VIVO, our new flagship cable! For sound quality, this fully-custom cable design incorporates silver plated OFHC copper and top-quality connectors available in 6’ and 10’ 1/4” and 4-pin XLR terminations, and portable-friendly 3.5’ 2.5, 3.5, and 4.4mm cables. VIVO projects a wide open and holographic soundstage with precise imaging and tons of smooth detail.
And VIVO feels as good as it looks, and sounds. VIVO has a remarkably supple feel and is so light you’ll hardly notice it’s there and careful construction means it’s non-microphonic for comfortable and “quiet” listening.
These are the best I've ever heard, also the most comfortable, Smooth and detailed throughout the entire spectrum. With decent amplification, they sound pretty close to perfect. If what you want is great sound., there's no sound reason to spend more. With Tidal and a good amp, an inexhaustible supply of bagels and lox and good coffee, there's no reason to ever leave the house.
For ages I've searched for end game headphones. They've always been too heavy, or too bass heavy, or too bright, or something.
The Ether 2 fits my needs like a glove. It's rich bass, smooth mids and easy going but detailed highs make it a great fit for pretty much all my music. It's comfort is top notch and never leaves me feeling comfort interferes with my ability to listen all day.
With the sky high prices of most flagship headphones the Ether 2 seems like a best-buy. Heartily recommended!
These are amazing, good low end, brilliant highs and the mids do not muck anything up. They are so light and comfy, and the pads are luxurious. Build quality is fantastic, well worth the price to acquire.
I was surprised at the lightness of Ether 2.
I do not feel weight.(290gram)
The sound field is also very big and I feel like in a concert hall.
But ... the sound is ambiguous because it is too wide.
It seems that the sound is hidden and the performance is getting worse as compared with the past Ether series in almost all categories, resolution, transparency, sound separation.
I tried it with various audio systems, but it did not improve.
Even including the material and structure of the ear pads, I can not imagine that it is a headphone of $2000.
If the ear pad is perforated, I think the sound will be improved considerably.
To be honest I thought that Ether 2 was headphones with only feather-like lightness & very wide sound.
I felt sad.
Incredibly natural real lifelike timbre. Sounds of piano, drum, cymbal, vocals are just so real.
It has absolutely fastest transient response among previous Ether series. And the bass yes it definitely goes low.
Ultimate comfort. So light . And it's an all rounder can. I can listen to classical orchestra, smooth jazz and heavy metal songs.
